The history of the split-seconds chronograph, also known in French as “rattrapante” is closely connected to the history and development of Patek Philippe since its founding in 1839. The split-seconds chronograph adds an additional layer of functionality to a standard chronograph by allowing the timing of two separate events simultaneously. This complex mechanism represents a pinnacle of ingenuity and precision in watchmaking, pushing the boundaries of what is possible is the mechanical timekeeping. Patek Philippe was again the first watch manufacturer to produce the split-seconds in a wristwatch with the first of its kind and earliest known made in 1923, now exhibited at the Patek Philippe Museum.
